Normally, I would be bitching about missing a four-game set against the Yankees, but after spending the weekend getting the bad news via cell phone, I'm glad I was throwing back beers on the Saco River and not throwing my beer at the TV.
There's no point in rehashing the weekend here. We lost four games and are now 6.5 back in the East... our bullpen is more exhasusted than I am after paddling a canoe for two days on no sleep and beer and pringles for fuel... and our offense went into hibernation about a month ago.
Maybe this mini homestand will wake us up...
But with Beckett mixed in between Penny, Buchholz and a spot start from Tazawa-bunga... I'm not feeling all that confident... to be honest.
Maybe Christian Guzman and his .315 BA will spark this team while Jed gets his arm looked at.
Bottom Line: Something needs to happen to wake this team up. Victor Martinez was a nice addition, but with Bay hurting and Not-So-Big Big still in a funk, I'm not sure there's much else we can do except pray that things start to click soon.
We've got a real nice homestand at the end of this month that includes a weekend against the Yankees, so there's still time to get back in this thing... but it will have to start tonight.
