McLeod, who has had a run of impressive drafts with the Sox, beginning the 2004 draft that landed Pedroia and continuing with the 2005 draft that produced Jacoby Ellsbury, Craig Hansen, Clay Buchholz, Jed Lowrie, Michael Bowden. "Our new Scouting Director will likely be someone from within the organization who is familiar with the Red Sox scouting systems and philosophies we have used for the last seven or eight years," GM Theo Epstein wrote. "Ultimately, the Red Sox Way of scouting and development is our foundation; it's more important to our success than any one of us individuals who are lucky enough to work here."
Jon Heyman, SI.com - Heyman says Theo will be the biggest "movers and shakers" at the Winter Meetings next week.
MLB Trade Rumors - The Sox have expressed interest in Free Agent 2B Placido Polanco, but the Phillies are pushing hard to make Polanco their new third baseman. The Phillies were rumored to be talking with the Sox about a trade from Mike Lowell, but despite the position change, Polanco would likely be a cheaper option.
Ken Rosenthal, FOX Sports - Apparently, the Red Sox will have some stiff competition in their quest to sign SP Rich Harden. Rosenthal says the Seattle Mariners are aggressively perusing Harden, who is a native of British Columbia.
One If By Land - I'm totally on the Kiko Calero bandwagon. This guy has a solid season in 2009 and nobody seems to care... I think he's a good fit in our bullpen and so does Brian M.
Big League Stew - Duk finds an old Nike commercial featuring two of my favorite players from back in the day - Don Mattingly and Ken Griffey, Jr. And yes, I was a Mattingly fan despite also being a Red Sox fan.
