Our pitcher is waaaaay better than your pitcher

Everyone seems to agree that this series is not going to be what the MLB gods hoped it would be when they scheduled it last year. So, rather than blab about the details, I'll leave you all with these simple facts:

Jon Lester is 5-0 with a 2.09 ERA, a .204 BAA and a 67/16 K/BB ratio in 9 games. The Red Sox have won his last seven starts.

Joba Chamberlain is 1-4 with a 8.25 ERA, a .328 BAA and 27/21 ration in 9 games. Joba hasn't earned a win since August 6th.

The Yankees are first in the majors in Runs (372), team average (.294) and OPS (.858).

The Red Sox are 4th with 356 runs, 5th with a .276 average and 2nd with a .815 OPS.

The Yankees are 35-14 (71 W%) since August 1st. The Sox are 30-19 (61 W%).

This series may not have it's usual cache, but I'll be curious to see if the Sox make Joba cry tonight with a Mariner-like seven runs in the first few innings... I'm also be excited to see Daisuke continue his crazy comeback with a solid outing against the Bombers on Saturday.

And as for Byrd... well, I think I'll watch the Patriots.

Bottom Line: I don't care if the Yanks have already clintched a playoff spot or that the Sox havea 1% chance of winning the AL East... Red Sox v Yankees will be always entertaining.

SIDE NOTES

Eck recently blogged about the Sox and Yankees at the TBS Hot Corner - read more here.

And don't forget to click over and guess how many saves Paps will finish the year with for a chance to win that cool looking poster you see in the sidebar...
